8.7 ROLE OF RELATIONAL DIVISION FOR INFORMATION RETRIEVAL
Since conventional relational databases contain data that is crisp, most data manip-
ulation operations are centered on the retrieval of data based on non-fuzzy selection
criteria. However, the need for specifying queries with fuzzy terms has increased
as users focus more of their attention on the retrieval of information rather
than data. A solution to the fuzzy query representation problem is to store fuzzy
information in a database, for example, storing the fact that a student is a middle-
aged man with a high GPA who ha
