5.11 Summary
We have explored a variety of ways to model and simulate relationships
among variables. As a general rule, it is always best to use the simplest model
that captures the essential nature of the relationships. Logical statements are
powerful and simple to use and can capture many relationships where a
relatively small number of values for a variable are involved (for example,
where one variable takes on the value one if some condition for another
variable is met, such as a drug is approved if greater than 20% of the treat-
