Oddly enough, the article also reported that more than 9 million Americans were looking for work but could not find jobs (“Job Openings Are at Record Highs. Why Aren’t Unemployed Americans Filling Them?” The Wall Street Journal, July 9, 2021). The article went on to discuss the various ways that the pandemic has rapidly changed the way work gets done, including the attractiveness of remote work and the “great reset” as employees switched jobs in record-breaking numbers.
