Summary
This chapter has discussed SOHO LAN security threats including the most common security threat, viruses and malevolent software; spyware observing, collecting, and reporting on user activity; and finally the less common direct attacks by hackers or crackers from the Internet. Countermeasures to mitigate the security threats were examined including virus scanning software, firewalls, and Microsoft Windows update services that fix Windows security vulnerabilities. A brief discussion of administrative procedures for monitoring network PC hosts and servers to detect and report security attacks concluded the chapter.
