Contextualizing Resilience

The cultivation of resilience is critical to warding off burnout, as it allows employees to learn from setbacks and remain flexible in fraught situations. But when organizations unduly emphasize resilience, they sometimes “blame the victim” and overlook their own role in helping avoid burnout. Organizations need a framework for better identifying burnout’s causes, their own role in preventing it, and resilience’s role in sustaining engagement and promoting wellness.
