I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Roles
Roles is a facility within Final Cut Pro X which you can choose to totally ignore, or
you can work with in depth, to your advantage. Roles offers functionality which
is useful, however, for many projects, not essential. You can well and truly work
without Roles—however, for complex projects, particularly when you have many
different audio elements to work with, Roles will make your life a lot simpler.

The Index, top left of the Timeline, is where the Roles controls are located.
