30Personal Brand Audit
In our digital world, who you are online is who you are—at least to prospects. Your personal brand isn't what you say about yourself; in the words of Chris Ducker, “it's what people say about you when you are not in the room.”
It's your reputation, your digital first impression, your influence footprint. And in B2B sales, your personal brand can be a force multiplier. It opens doors you didn't even know existed.
What must be understood, though, is that your personal brand is already forming, whether or not you are actively shaping it. Every comment, every post, every interaction builds a perception in the minds of your network connections, prospects, and customers. And, by the way, being absent from LinkedIn, or doing nothing, also shapes perception.
Start Your Personal Branding Journey with an Audit
The most effective way to begin your personal branding journey is through a personal brand audit. Start with four questions:
- Is my personal brand working for me or against me?
- Does my presence on LinkedIn support my reputation and credibility?
- Does my current activity on LinkedIn help people become familiar with my name, face, and personal brand in a positive way?
- Do I balance strengthening my personal brand with creating awareness for my product, service, or software and my company's brand?
If the answer to any of these questions is “no” or “I'm not sure,” stop and make an adjustment in your strategy. Use the audit form in Exercise 30.1 as a guide. ...
