Chapter 14.1Translation

Based on insights from an interview with Nicholas Martin.

Whether you're expanding services to marginalized communities, engaging a global network of volunteers, or soliciting donations from international benefactors, the ability to translate your content into multiple languages can open up a world of possibilities. But historically, offering multilingual content has been cost prohibitive for most nonprofits, and even then, only when they were trying to reach a huge audience to make it worth it.

AI offers a robust solution to the often-daunting task of translation, allowing you to bridge language gaps more efficiently than ever before. In the past, translating something like a comprehensive digital health course could cost up to $200,000 and take up to six months. With AI, that cost and time can be substantially reduced, with only a small amount of staff support required. While the quality of AI translations might not be perfect yet, it's rapidly improving, especially for the major languages. Even now, leveraging AI for translation can save you time and resources while breaking down language barriers and expanding your nonprofit's impact. The tools are here, the technology is improving, and with a little intentionality, your organization can expand your reach across borders and cultures.
