Administrative System of the Ahoms
- The Ahom government took the form of a monarchical system. While the monarchy was absolute in its structure, it had certain democratic elements in practice.
- The supreme authority in the Ahom kingdom was the king, referred to as the Swargadeo. However, there were times when the influential Gohains (specifically, the Burhagohain, Bargohain, and Barpatragohain) wielded significant power and overshadowed weaker Ahom rulers.
