The medieval period in Assam commenced with the arrival of Muslim invaders, notably Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1206, marking a significant turning point in Assam’s history. Subsequently, in 1228, the Ahoms, a Tai group, migrated to the Brahmaputra valley from Myanmar. Under the leadership of Sukapha, they established their initial capital at Charaideo. The Ahoms ruled the region for an extensive period of 600 years.
