In this section, we study the behaviour of inductor current in a series RL circuit excited by a unit step voltage source qualitatively. The initial current in the inductor at t = 0– is assumed to be zero for the purpose of this analysis.
Unit step voltage is defined in the following manner. It has a step discontinuity at t = 0, and strictly speaking, the time instant t = 0 is excluded from the domain of the function.
