7.2 THE SINUSOIDAL SOURCE FUNCTION
The sinusoidal voltage source function is generated in Synchronous Generators in Electrical Power Systems and by low power electronic oscillator circuits in Electronic Systems Communication Systems and Instrumentation/Measurement Systems. A source will have to be switched on at some point of time. Switching on a source may be a simple affair of switching on the DC power supply as in the case of an electronic sinusoidal oscillator circuit or switching on the AC mains to a function generator in the laboratory. It may be a complicated affair involving a sequence of steps as in the case of bringing a generator in a Nuclear Power Station online.
