Three-phase sources and loads can take two forms – star connected or delta connected. The star connection is also referred to as Y-connection. The delta connection is referred to as ∆-connection or mesh connection.
Two options to construct a three-phase Y-connected source are shown in Fig. 9.2-1.
In Fig. 9.2-1(a) , the terminal identified by Y has a voltage phasor that lags the voltage phasor of the terminal identified as R by 120°. And the terminal identified as B has a voltage phasor that leads the R-line by 120° – i.e., B-line voltage lags R-line voltage by 240°.
