Appendix A. Setup, Signup, and Accessories

How you set up your Galaxy Tab varies according to whether you’ve got a Wi-Fi–only Galaxy Tab, or one that also includes a cellular connection. If you’ve bought your cellular Galaxy Tab at a Verizon or other service provider store, then the sales folks walked you through the process of activating your Tab and signing up for a plan. If you bought your Tab over the Web or at a retail store, you might not have gone through the setup process for getting your cellular connection. So contact Verizon or another provider for getting the Tab set up with a cellular connection.

If you’ve got a Wi-Fi–only Galaxy Tab, then setup is much easier. When you turn on your Tab and walk through its initial screens, it asks you for the email address and login information for your primary Gmail or Google account. (And if you don’t have one yet, it prompts you to set one up.)

If you have a cellular-enabled Galaxy Tab, you want to get a data plan for giving the Tab everywhere-access to the Internet and email. Check with a provider for rates.

Accessories

You can buy plenty of accessories to get more out of your Galaxy Tab—there are Tab accessories designed to protect its case or screen, connect it to a car charger, and more. Here’s some of what’s available:

  • Cases. Cases protect the Galaxy Tab against damage—when you drop it, for example. They also can hold your Tab at an angled position, facing you for when you want to watch a movie, for example, or video chat.
