On embedded and mobile platforms, power consumption is always a problem. However, when using embedded Linux, we do not have to do it all manually, as the kernel will already do most of the work for us by scaling down unused cores and putting system and periphery devices to sleep. However, the configuration of some drivers can sometimes be optimized. In such cases, we can use the Powertop Linux tool to diagnose issues with power consumption and power management and obtain suggestions on most common problems.
However, our application should try to conserve energy too. Some hints for that include the following:
