Managing Workloads in a Cost-Effective Way

When you strip away issues related to specific applications and specific requests, you get to the essence of how computing has begun to evolve. A well-tuned computing environment must be able to manage workloads in an efficient and effective manner. This type of workload management is important in any computing environment; however, it’s mandatory in a hybrid cloud environment.

Because a hybrid cloud environment is a combination of several different computing models, all the models must be able to come together and act as though they are one cohesive platform. Although enabling different incompatible workloads to work together is possible, deep technical skills are required to mask the differences among implementations.

However, in a hybrid world, an organization wants to be able to have the ability to link workloads together at the time of need without the burden of complex coding. What would this look like in the average environment? Say that you have a sophisticated application, such as a general ledger in the data center. It includes a lot of data about what customers bought and when they bought it and how much they paid. It provides data that can be used to determine the difference in sales over time.

The typical way companies make use of this information is to bring in a reporting tool to determine the right statistics. However, what if the world is more complicated than that? What if not all the data you need is in the data center ...
