The Small Search Box
Users who have worked with the earlier version of Windows SharePoint Services and with Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 will be familiar with a user interface control called the small Search box that is used for entering and executing their search queries. The small Search Box control is also available in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Office SharePoint Server 2007. It comes in different flavors, and master pages make it available in many places within your SharePoint portals and individual sites.
