As you’ve seen in various chapters in this book, by default, users will not see the search results originating from the SharePoint sites or shared folders for which they do not have the appropriate permissions. The index engine, while crawling, collects and stores the information from the ACL defined for the resource or container where the resource is stored. When users are searching, this information is used by the Search service, thus filtering the search results. But this is not the case for all of the types of content sources that administrators can create.
