“Change is the only constant in life.” This piece of wisdom is usually credited to the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus, who was born in the 6th century, B.C.E., and yet, ’the concept is just as true today as it was then. At work and in life, we can’t always accurately predict the changes that come our way, but we can know for certain that nothing stays the same for long.
Therefore, one of the key competencies of any leader is to navigate their team through times of change. Whether that change is desired and planned or is thrust upon a team by external circumstances, leaders must decide the best direction and know how to get everyone moving in that new direction. Fortunately, with a little knowledge of team dynamics, a positive attitude, and a healthy dose of patience, these skills can be attained and strengthened.
