LeveLing and heijunka
In this chapter we will address one of the elements of the base of the House of
Toyota: leveling. We will start with the ideal situation, as created within the Toyota
Production System, characterized by high-volume, low-mix production with long
horizons of frozen customer orders that enables a heijunka schedule, then explore
environments where heijunka is not possible, such as high product mix, and make or
