In this chapter we will cover flow and FIFO instead of BOM levels, pull systems
instead of MRP, long-term planning, short-term planning and execution, and gross
explosions versus netting.
All of these topics will be limited to dependent demand materials only.
Dependent demand: Demand that is directly related to or derived from the bill of mate-
rial structure for other items or end products. Such demands are therefore calculated and
need not and should not be forecast.
