In this chapter we will cover several very important topics that have to do with capac-

ity planning, including capacity planning and takt time; flow, pull, and capacity con-

trol; and scheduling for capacity control. In this chapter you will, among other things,

learn to compare traditional capacity requirements planning to Lean tools such as

operator balance charts, understand the process of capacity planning using takt time

and interval, and see how flow and visual factory replace shop floor control.
