Interestingly, the Government’s Attorney General has relatively recently emphasised the
role and importance of the professions themselves, rather than the courts, in regulating
and disciplining their members.

The most important point to remember is that as the professions set high entry barriers
and rely on the trust and respect of the public, very high standards of conduct – which
exceed normal commercial standards of behaviour – are required to retain this relatively
privileged position.
