The insurance is important as it provides a benefit to clients and users. This importance
is recognised by both the RIBA and the ARB.
The RIBA refer to the need for professional indemnity insurance in its Code of Conduct
Guidance Note 5 and it is referred to in RIBA Standard Agreements. Standard 8 of the
ARB Code and Standards (2010) states that architects are expected to have adequate
professional indemnity insurance cover.
