THE CASE STUDY
CHAPTER 4
This chapter covers the role of the case study in the RIBA Part 3 examination. It includes:
> how to select a suitable project;
> how to plan its structure and its content;
> the place of critical analysis in the study; and
> some pointers towards success based on professional examiner feedback.
The case study is essentially work-based. Part 3 course leaders are very aware of the
importance of gaining the right experience on the appropriate project and will be able to
advise students on project selection and personal involvement. You may receive guidance
and support from your school of architecture, but you will not produce a satisfactory case
study without the involvement and support of your practice.
