and projects the possible path ahead. To this extent the career appraisal should celebrate
your achievements and speculate on your ambitions for the future.
This discussion of your future is, too often, seen as a gesture to future practice and
sometimes reads as a ‘standalone’ statement of intent. Part 3 students also make the
mistake that they should write what the examiners want to read. For example: ‘I plan to
start my own practice in a few years time, when I am ready’.
