Chapter 5. How to Measure Hard and Soft Skills

The organization invested $3M to roll out a leadership program for over two hundred managers. Now questions are being asked such as: Did managers' behavior change on the job? Will the investment help us meet our business goals? Should we have used the money elsewhere? These are all good questions, but other questions should have been asked much earlier, such as: What is the problem we are trying to solve? Why is it we believe leadership behaviors will solve it? What are the leadership behaviors we are looking for? What happens when they are absent? Did the training include sufficient opportunities to apply the leadership behaviors? and Will these new behaviors be supported in the workplace?
