I love how accessible photography and photography tools have become in recent years, because I get to teach you something really cool. You don’t need access to high-end editing programs or expensive apps to learn how to use photographs as a guide in your printmaking, all you need is a phone or a tablet. This trick is incredibly helpful while you are learning to see your subjects in two values—in black and white and in highlights and shadows—in order to translate your image into something you can carve. You can use this technique for line-drawing-style carvings, but it will serve you the most with high-contrast images.
