Because of this requirement, quality standards for the maintenance, repair

and inspection of in-service products have had to be laid down in engineering

standards, handbooks and local operating manuals (written for specific items

and equipment). These publications must be used by maintenance engi-

neers and should always include the most recent amendments. It is essen-

tial that the quality-assurance personnel also use the same procedures for

their inspections.
