Virtually everything you photograph will have edges. First let’s consider high- and low-contrast regions. For most situations, high-contrast edges are desirable when making masks or selections, because they are easy to see when using masking functions in compositing the final images. Low-contrast edges can be difficult to see and select properly. Figure 5.11 shows the same subject photographed against two different backgrounds, one high-contrast, the other low-contrast.
