What sort of a person buys almost half a tonne of bananas as their weekly supermarket shop? In January 1997, physicist Phil Calcott, age 28, answered that question. Bananas being his favourite fruit, he was pleased to see extra Clubcard points were being awarded on each 3 lb bunch at Tesco. The bananas cost £1.17.
