One of the main roles introduced by the GDPR is the data controller, which is discussed in Article 4. The data controller is the subject, a natural or legal person, that establishes the purposes and means used for the processing of personal data. It is the subject on which the obligations and penalties fall, in the event of non-fulfillment required by the GDPR, in compliance with the principle of accountability.
