Permissioned blockchains are traced back to DLTs as they mainly meet the needs of those organizations interested in managing a shared ledger exclusively internally. In practice, although constituting decentralized ledgers, permissioned blockchains distinguish the nodes of the network based on their roles and on the basis of the privileges assigned to them.
Recall that in permissionless (public) blockchains, no distinctions are made between nodes.
