2.17 Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a technique that is often used in conjunc-
tion with factorial design and analysis of experiments (see Section 2.14) to
compare multiple population means while minimizing the error of reject-
ing a null hypothesis (see Section 2.2) when the null hypothesis is true. This
technique is explained in detail in Black (2011).
An application of this technique to Six Sigma is illustrated using Minitab
®
in Chapter 14.
