Introduction
O
, the study of design in practice has become a major focus
across many dierent disciplines. It is crucial to understand how professionals work,
both with an eye toward developing innovations that help them work better, and with
an eye toward documenting practices that help train new generations. Studying designers
while they work has become a discipline of its own, with established expectations, prac-
tices, and venues for presenting results.
