1.4.3 Gestures
Gestures serve some of the same ends as diagrams. Like diagrams, they externalize and
express thought using space and actions in space to convey concepts and relations and
actions that are literally or metaphorically spatial. Unlike diagrams, they are eeting. But
more than diagrams, they can convey actions, behavior, and function as well as structure.
Problem solvers alone in a room gesture; their gestures correspond spatially to the prob-
