It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Scrap files
On the Mac, they’re called clipping files, and they’re even more widely compatible. You create them the same way: Drag some highlighted text, or a graphic, out of a program’s window and onto the desktop. There it becomes an independent clipping file that you can drag back into either the same window or a different one.
