Chapter 28. Hope Receives the News

Hope Receives the News

"Hi Joyce," Hope said, nervously.

"Hi, Hope, how are you?" Joyce asked as Hope tried to detect whether the news was good or bad by the tone of Joyce's voice. But she couldn't tell, and after a few seconds of awkward silence Joyce continued.

"So, we have the results."

"Just tell me. I can handle it," Hope cried as her heart began to race faster and she began to shake and perspire.

"You got it," said Joyce as she raised her voice and cheered. "The news is all good! Everything is good. The blood work came back good. The ultrasound came back good. It was so good they even had two doctors look at it just to make sure because they didn't want to be wrong. So you are good to go."

It was not what Hope expected to hear, and tears just started to flow down her face. She had tried to be so strong, and now she was allowed to fall apart. She began to cry. And cry and cry. "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you," she said over the phone, but Joyce knew she wasn't thanking her.

"Well, I'm just so happy for you," said Joyce. "I want you to know I'll be thinking about you and, hopefully, we'll see each other again under different circumstances. I know you need to be alone right now. Bye, sweetie."

"Good-bye, and thank you so much," said Hope, as she hung up the phone and collapsed in her chair.
