Foreword

I have had the privilege of knowing Abate Kassa for over 30years. We rst

met while he was executive director of ISM-New York, local aliate of the

Institute for Supply Management, where he served with distinction for

19years. I had become an active volunteer with ISM-New York as a com-

mittee member, then a member of the board of directors and, later, presi-

dent of the aliate. Working closely with Abate Kassa through all of those

years, he quickly became my mentor, my teacher, and a trusted advisor.

As executive director of ISM-New York, Abate Kassa was our resident
