The Value Specialist Approach
It has oen been said that “a specialist is a person who knows more and
more about less and less, until (s)he knows almost everything about noth-
ing. A generalist is a person who knows less and less about more and more,
until (s)he knows practically nothing about everything.”
A value specialist is a full-time value analyst or value engineer trained
in the VA/VE discipline of obtaining essential function at least cost in
resources without impairing quality. Value specialists may or may not
be holders of a Certied Value Specialist (CVS) certication, though it
