23.1 Launching Tools and Web Sites Quickly with SlickRun
Productivity is a fickle thing. A few keystrokes can make all the difference in the world when you’re trying to get and stay in the flow as you’re coding. Time spent using the mouse to pull up various menus or navigate to folders is time spent away from solving sticky problems, and it’s just plain distracting.
Bayden’s SlickRun is a floating command line for Windows that provides almost instant access to any program or web site. SlickRun allows you to create command aliases known as MagicWords, which are friendly commands that launch one or more programs or web sites. For instance, you can type VS to launch Microsoft Visual Studio, or type MSDN IObjectSafety to look up the interface of that name in the MSDN documentation. Powerful autocompletion and history features enable you to type as few as one or two characters to execute your most frequently used commands.
