The image on the cover of Windows Developer Power Tools is a circular saw. Although variations of this tool have been around since the 1700s, the basic portable circular saw was invented in the early 1920s, with the idea being that it would make harvesting sugar cane stalks faster and easier. It has evolved over the years into the efficient tool that it is today. It can be handheld or mounted on a table, and it is usually used to cut through wood materials. However, because it can use different blades, it is possible to use one to cut metal or stone as well.

When using such a saw, it is best to take careful safety precautions. Always hold it away from your body while it is running, and don’t use it on a surface that you can’t see underneath. You don’t want to inadvertently cut through any unknown objects accidentally. Finally, avoid wearing loose clothing, because it can catch on the saw.

The cover image is from the O’Reilly clip art collection. The cover font is Adobe ITC Garamond. The text font is Linotype Birka; the heading font is Adobe Helvetica Neue Condensed; and the code font is LucasFont’s TheSans Mono Condensed.
