Labour markets
In Chapter 5 we looked at the economic context in which organisations operate, noting that the market, competition and the forces of supply and demand are central. In this chapter we are going to move on to look at markets for labour and at broad labour market trends. We will start by focusing on individual labour markets that operate locally in particular areas or industries. We will then go on in the second part of this chapter to look at the dynamics of the UK labour market generally from a national perspective, exploring the long-term trends and discussing what these may mean for the future of work and employment if they continue.
