Flexibility
This chapter explores the issue of flexibility within organisations. One of the key themes discussed within this text thus far has been the extent of change in the environment facing our organisations, and the unpredictable nature of the disruptions that managers and leaders frequently must grapple with. There have long been calls for our organisations to be more flexible and agile in order to deal with a context that is increasingly volatile and unpredictable, with substantial thought invested into this area from both academic researchers and industry commentators alike. ‘Agility’ as an issue will be dealt with in a separate chapter that follows this one, as it is a sizeable field in and of itself.
