The subjects of equality, diversity and inclusion have moved up the corporate agenda in recent times. In 2017, the Deloitte human capital trends report noted that diversity and inclusion had become a ‘CEO-level issue’ (Deloitte, 2017), with high-performing organisations deriving advantage from their diversity and inclusion strategies. For organisations to leverage the benefits of such strategies, it is argued that equality, diversity and inclusion need to become mainstream issues for businesses, rather than topics that are the sole preserve of particular functions, such as human resource management.
