One of the first things on your mind when you become independent will be where you’re going to set up shop. There are two main options, either working from home or renting a space elsewhere, and choosing one is a decision that should be made before you go independent. It must be well-thought out and researched, because each option has its pros and cons.
This is how I started in 2005, living in a two bedroom Edinburgh apartment with a friend. My workspace comprised a desk, chair, computer, printer, and bookcase in the corner of my bedroom.
