The point of this case study was not to show the correct solution—there isn't a single best solution, and I'm sure readers can improve on what I've suggested. My sincere hope has been to demonstrate that doing object design can be reasoned through by core principles such as low coupling and the application of patterns, rather than being a mysterious process.
This presentation has used GoF design patterns at many points, which is one point of the case study as a learning aid. But, there have been reports of designers excessively force-fitting patterns in a creative frenzy of pattern-itis.
