Chapter 3

Not embracing everyone’s goals

Abstract

Understanding the KPIs and goals of stakeholders is only half the job. Once we have internalized them, we need to actively and visibly demonstrate how our work serves those goals. This can be difficult because well-designed responses can be less noticeable than tacked-on ones. Ensuring that we connect on a personal level, embrace and play back our understanding of the stakeholders’ needs, and bring stakeholders inside the loop of our process all build the connection that’s necessary to move us from acceptance to trust.
