Communities are groups of people that come together due to a common interest. Online communities come together via the internet and communicate via tools such as websites, social networks, e-mail, messaging apps, even text messages. All communities are networks of individuals who come together, but not all networks are communities.
Communities develop around a shared, collective purpose or interest whereas networks may not have that shared purpose or identity. Communities are inherently based upon trust and shared values. Social sites can link various communities of stakeholders into networks.
