As discussed before, data services provide a mechanism to deliver data based on a contract to a consuming application over light weight protocols. This component exists in the serving layer of a Data Lake and serves as a pull based mechanism from the consumer applications. While the data may reflect into the underlying data stores in near real time, it also depends on when the consuming applications pull the data via services. Theses services being light-weight can satisfy near real time requirements from the Data Lake serving layer that may be populated via speed layer.
